You’ll probably find yourself in Auckland at one point or another since it is the main hub for international flights. Whether you’re starting your journey or just about to fly back home, here are our top 5 things you can (and should) do while in the biggest city of the country.
1. See the sunrise at Westhaven Marina
The Westhaven Marina is the largest yacht marina in the Southern Hemisphere, and the right place to go if you want to see one of nature’s most spectacular shows. You will find yourself among the many locals who head there to do some morning workout, so join them on an invigorating run, or just take your time to enjoy the majestic start of a brand new day.
2. explore ponsonby Neighbourhood
If we had to choose a place to live in Auckland, that would be Ponsonby. This neighborhood has some of the most charming houses, and it’s full of hip stores and coffee places. You can easily spend an afternoon shopping in the most trendy boutiques and grabbing food from the coolest eateries along the Ponsonby road. We loved the vibe of Ponsonby Central, and we had in mind some other spots we wanted to try like Little bird Kitchen, Farina, or Mekong Baby. If only we had the time (and the stomach)!
3. Stroll Along QUEEN ST
Located right in the Central Business district (CBD), Queen Street has it all: many stores, great restaurants, historic buildings, old theaters, and pretty much anything you’ll want. It stretches for almost 3 km, with many parallel little streets, worth exploring too, like High Street.
4. Get the best views from the iconic sky tower
5. Viaduct Harbour
One of the liveliest areas we’ve visited was, without a doubt, the Viaduct Harbour. Take a walk, grab a drink, and enjoy some people-watching in the sun. There are many restaurants for you to choose from, but we highly recommend you to try out Dr. Rudi’s Rooftop Brewing Co.
