Cup of Tea hostel opened in 2018, and it was our accommodation choice when visiting Takayama. It’s a lovely place, with small little details that made us feel at home from the moment we walked through the door. It’s very well designed, with a minimalist and clean style. Located in a quiet and traditional neighborhood, you can easily walk to the historic areas of Takayama. The prices are very competitive, and the place has a delightful familiar vibe.
The hostel offers private tatami floored rooms – which is something you have to experience while in Japan – and also dorms with pod-style beds. Even though it only has shared bathrooms, they were always super clean and tidy.
Moreover, Cup of Tea has two common lounges that allowed us to meet other guests and members of the staff. We had a long conversation with a Japanese guy who gave us a lot of insights about what was like to live in Takayama, and that was probably one of our best memories of our time there.
