After spending the morning in Hiroshima, we started the quick journey to our next destination: the beautiful Miyajima. The mind-blowing scenery begins as the ferry approaches the island. It was already mid-afternoon when we left our hotel, after doing the check-in for the night. The sun was about to set, and the light was just marvelous.
The best time to explore the island is to start when everyone else leaves. Since the majority of the people just go there to spend the day, it’s actually a great deal to stay for the night and enjoy this peaceful and magical place for yourself. Walk around the island, full of deers everywhere, and make your way to the famous torii gate.
On the next day, we got to see the Torii gate and the magnificent Itsukushima Shrine at high tide, giving us a different perspective of the place. If you have the chance, take the ropeway that leads up to the Mt Misen. Unfortunately, it was under construction works when we were there, but the views are supposed to be nothing but surreal. There are several trails to walk around the island that you shouldn’t miss, and after that, reward yourself with some fresh oysters. Omotesando shopping street is also worth a stop.
Our time in Miyajima was an absolute bliss, and we highly recommend you include it on your trip to Japan. Appreciate the tranquillity of the island and the breathtaking scenery. We’re sure you won’t regret it.
