The small village of Ortisei is located right in the middle of the Dolomites, in Val Gardena. Therefore, we’ve decided to stay there for two nights, and Casa al Sole immediately catch our attention: the beautiful red building really stands out!
Even though the house was built in the ’30s, Alexandra and Manuel decided to renovate it. As a result, they’ve created a delightful B&B to welcome travelers from all over the world who share the same passion as they do: the mountains. And what remarkable hosts they are! Manuel has worked in some of the most renowned kitchens around the world and is a true wine connoisseur. Moreover, Alexandra has an adventurous spirit and has packed her bags and moved from Slovakia to pursuit her dream.
The dedication they’ve put into this project is easy to detect. It’s on the vintage armchairs they’ve restored, on the beautiful lamps made exclusively by request (we’ve discovered this because we wanted to buy one for our living room), and on all the exquisite details spread across Casa al Sole. We could even taste it on the hearty breakfast they prepared us every morning, always with a different twist.
Above all, we loved that they kept the traditional features of the building: doors, windows, and the wood floor. That combination, between the vintage elements and the modern and minimalistic design, couldn’t have been done in a better way.
The view from our room left us wondering if we should stay staring at those mountains all day long instead of going for a hike. Of course, the latter would eventually win, but we still had something to look for when arriving later at the end of the day: happy hour! From 4 pm to 8 pm, the guests can enjoy a selection of organic wines (we’ve mentioned Manuel is a big wine connoisseur, right?), craft beers, and tasty appetizers. They choose everything carefully to make sure you get a taste of the best products in the region. Trust us – you will love it!
In short, no matter the season, the mountains promise you great adventures and awe-inspiring sceneries. And in Casal al Sole, we’ve found a perfect home to go back to at the end of each day.
