As soon as we heard about this place, we knew we had to include it on our Dolomites itinerary. Yes, hiking is fun, but it can also be tiring, and you might want to relax at some point. This is the perfect plan if you have sore legs but still want to enjoy this spectacular part of Italy! How cool is it if you can spend an entire day exploring museums while enjoying 360 mountain views?
These museums are located on top of Kronplatz mountain. We started the day by going to Brunico and buying our gondola tickets for the Kronoplatz 2000 ( you can check the timetable and prices here). You can also hike your way up there, but be prepared because it’s definitely not a walk in the park. Once you reach the summit, take your time to soak up the scenery. It’s hard to put it into words or even capture the beauty of it in a picture. Each side gives you a different perspective of the mountains and it’s hard to decide where to look at.
Sneakpeek Tip: You can save on the Gondola ticket if purchased together with the MMM and Lumen museum. Ask about it at the ticket office. Also, keep in mind that both museums close at 4pm.
MMM Corones
MMM Corones is part of a group of six museums based in different locations, and It stays at 2,275m above sea level. This project was created by the famous Reinhold Messner, and it’s fully dedicated to the art of traditional Alpinism. It was fascinating to get to know the brave stories of people who decided to reach the top of some of the highest peaks of the world. However, it was the unique architecture of MMM that most captivated us. It seems like you’ve stepped into a different world!
AlpinN
By the time you leave MMM you might be getting a little hungry, so we recommend to book your reservation at AlpiNN restaurant! By the hand of the three-star Chef Norbert Niederkofler, prepare to witness a combination of modernity and Alpine traditions. We had never seen a restaurant like this: a panoramic room in a suspended crystal cube with 360-degree views of Südtirol! If you’re looking for something quicker, they also have a Coffee space where you can have a drink or a little snack.

Lumen Museum of Mountain Photography
Adjacent to AlpiNN, you’ll discover this incredible photography museum. We’ve found the contents of Lumen far more interesting than Messner, but it’s a matter of taste. Also, the three floors of this museum are strategically built with an exceptional view of the mountains. Don’t miss it!
