Best Places To Eat in Budapest

Budapest is home to some delicious restaurants, from five-star gourmet palaces to hole-in-the-wall joints serving some of the best cheap eats in Europe. It is a great place to try traditional Hungarian cuisine, like Goulash (a soup or stew of meat and vegetables seasoned with paprika and other spices), Chicken paprikash, or Langós.

Even if these don’t sound appealing to you, be rest assured that you’ll find food from every corner of the world! No matter your culinary preference or budget, there’s a dining experience waiting for you.

We’ve put together a list of our favorite restaurants in Budapest and can’t wait to share it with you!

Déryné

Buda side is known for being the place where the rich people live. And by going to Deryne you’ll certainly feel like one of them! Its unique atmosphere is charming, and the place is full of character. It was the most expensive meal we had during our time in Budapest, but it was certainly worth it. It’s one of those places you go not only because of the food but for all the experience: beautiful interiors, chic crowds, and impeccable staff. Deryne is sexy, trendy and a must-go while in the city.

Dobrumba

Excellent Middle Eastern food, even better if you go with friends as the dishes are perfect to share. Expect great drinks, a hip vibe, and cool interiors. The location is ideal if you’re heading for a night out in the Jewish Quarter. It is (highly!) recommended to reserve a table before you go because the place is always full. We had to make ours almost a week before!

Babka Budapest

We found Babka by accident and decided to stay for lunch. The place was buzzing and with lots of locals, which is always a good sign. Great for vegan/vegetarian food and we risk to say they have the best pita bread we have tasted. Some also say it’s the best mezze you’ll find in Budapest. Well, we haven’t tried them all but we certainly recommend a visit to Babka!

La movida

If you’re craving Mexican food in Budapest, look no further. The flavors are very close to the authentic Mexican food, and it has a warm Latin environment. At a certain point, tables are moved to the side and you can dance and get the night started!

Mazel Tov

This is arguably the most famous Middle Eastern restaurant in Budapest. Mazel Tov is located inside Budapest’s buzzing Jewish Quarter, but it’s not a regular ruin bar with cheap drinks and street food. Instead, expect fancy cocktails, and an upscale menu. Of course, it is highly “instagramable” which adds to its reputation. To be totally honest, we weren’t impressed by the food but who knows, maybe we made the wrongs choices. Anyhow, the stunning interiors are worth the visit.

Belli di mamma

Right next to Mazel Tov, you’ll find Belli di Mamma. Really good quality ingredients and very generous toppings. You know we’re pizza lovers’, so we do recognize a delicious pizza when we eat one!
