Mussels in New Zealand are a big thing! After arriving at the South Island, we found this spot between Picton and Nelson, in the small town of Havelock. This tiny place can go unnoticed, but if you ask anyone in the area, they will show you the way.
Coming from a country with loads of fresh fish and seafood, we don’t say this lightly: these were some of the best mussels we’ve ever eaten! You can choose to have them battered, grilled, smoked, or steamed, and they are all incredible! Even the bread and the french fries were so good!
Please, try to fit Mills Bay Mussels in your itinerary, you won’t regret it. Hands down one of the best meals we had during our trip. And probably the best place to try mussels in New Zealand!
