If you want to escape from your busy life and are looking for a relaxing getaway, remember this name: Montimerso.
This charming country house was born in the heart of Alqueva, designed to coexist in harmony with the nature that surrounds it. The impressive views over the Alqueva are the main highlight of Montimerso, along with the friendly staff that has memorized our names from day one.
Being Alqueva the largest artificial lake in Westen Europe, it was also the first certified Starlight Tourism Destination in the World! So when the sun goes down, you should stare at the sky. Montimerso even provides professional telescopes and specific areas to do so.
Overall, we did very little during our weekend. Going on a bike ride, relaxing by the pool, and reading a book on our private terrace was exactly what we had in mind. But in case you get easily bored, Montimerso has a range of activities to choose from, including Balloon rides and picnics!
The suites look like typical Alentejo houses, with white walls and handicrafts in wicker and cork. Furthermore, some of them include a private pool, which you might want to keep in mind at the time of booking.
Another great thing to mention is their effort to be sustainable from top to bottom. Montimerso has reservoirs that allow rainwater to be reused, and the construction of the whole building had in mind energy efficiency. The lighting is low to respect the well-being of wild boars, rabbits, and foxes that roam around. You’ll find details on each suite promoting eco-practices, and the majority of the staff is from nearby villages. The restaurant offers light meals during the day and a delicious dinner almost every night, everything made with local products.
After staying in Montimerso, we realized it’s less about getting away from the hustle of city life and more about being close to everything else. The things that really matter.
