Getting lost in Bali seems like a thing of the past. This magical and beautiful destination has been a trend for more than ten years and is arguably on everyone’s bucket list. Consequently, it is very hard to find an untouched place where the idyllic beaches, jungle, and local society haven’t been shaped by tourism and all its vibes. But that was until the Lindenberg group arrived on the island.
Lost Lindenberg is the fifth project of the German brand. It’s located in the peaceful village of Pekutatan, about two hours away from Ubud and a little bit longer if you’re coming from the airport. No one understood why we were heading to such a remote area on the West coast of Bali. And that alone made us feel like the coolest kids on the block.
From the moment we arrived, we felt that this place would blow us away. After missing the entrance, our taxi driver had to go back on the lush road, only to find a wall filled with neon signs that reminded us of our trip to Las Vegas. The unique experience continues when you enter a small door and start walking through the wild jungle and pass by an old temple.
The Lost retreat established eight tower rooms designed by Bali-based architects Alexis Dornier and Maximilian Jencquel, elevated alongside tall coconut trees and perfectly synced with the surrounding environment. Every little detail, from the furniture to the tableware and lighting, was carefully thought to provide a warm and nostalgic feeling. Even the playlist you listen to when you’re at the communal lounge has been specially created for each time of the day.
Lindenberg group has a unique approach to hospitality, treating the guests like part of a true community. Lost is no exception. Every night we had dinner together at a long black table while the chef spoiled us with a seasonal plant-based menu that was always a surprise.
The black lava sand beach (that goes as far as the eyes can see), surrounded by a thick luxuriant wilderness, must be some of the most beautiful landscapes we have ever seen. With no one around besides local kids, it’s like having a taste of how Bali felt some decades ago.
Medewi’s famous surf spot is just a short drive away. However, there’s an extensive list of activities you can choose from, including Yoga, Snorkeling, or Spa treatments.
Staying at Lost was a highlight of our trip to Bali and one of the best experiences we ever had around the world. Needless to say, being Lost never felt so good.
